Crossinary is a simple dictionary tool for Windows™ to help both creating and solving crosswords and other word puzzles. It compactly stores a massive (over a quarter of a million words) list of English words (including some proper nouns) and allows you to quickly perform searches to find all the words that match a pattern such as something-A-I-something-E.

Sadly the source code for it was lost a few computers ago (this in the days before public repository services were as hassle-free as they are today). The executable can be downloaded from this link though.

No install needed, just launch the EXE, and enter the word you want with * for the letters you are missing.

This software is provided “AS IS” without any guarantee of anything at all. It would be open source if I still had the source, but I don’t, so it’s freeware.
